Social media is another world that live side by side with our world. If we go deeper to this virtual world, then we are going to drown into it. This world itself is a scary, addictive place, but what if we put crime or supernatural stuff in it. Could it get scarier that it already is? In order to answer that, you will need to watch these movies and see the answer by yourself. These thriller-genre movies show how scary the virtual world is if you use it in a wrong way. So here is the list…

- Hard Candy (2005)
Starting with American thriller movie back in 2005, Hard Candy has the most original story about cyber and pedophilia dating. An adult man in his 30’s exploring teens chatroom and ending up meeting in a place somewhere is a common story we watch in many movies. Unexceptionally, Hard Candy is one of those kind of movies until this 14-year-old girl, Haley, turned back the situation by tying up his date, Jeff. The thing that she always won from him makes him ‘a hard candy’ in this story. However, the best part of all is the ending. This is just so satisfying and relieving. How? You might want to check it out yourself here.

- The Den (2013)
An anonymous webcam-based social media is always fascinating, and sometimes disgusting as ever. That is what happened to Elizabeth as she logged in into this kind of social media called The Den in order to fulfill her graduate project in her sociology program. Then one night she saw something that might be a murdering case. After that her account was hacked several times and even her camera in her phone and laptop had been turned on without her knowing. Now that is just the beginning, the rest is scarier and heart pounding. Even scarier when you think that these things may happen to you, like probably someone is watching you from your camera on your laptop or phone right now, without your knowing, and observing what you have been done all this time. Booo… Anyway, watch the movie here.

- Ratter (2015)
Another webcam hacking movie, but this one does not only involving your gadget but also your apartment’s CCTV, which means every single act you do when you wake up in the morning until you get back to sleep is being watched. Emma, the main character in this movie, is not safe anymore, even her boyfriend got an email telling him to stay away from Emma. The next day, she found her door unlocked and her cat died. If you love cliff-hanger ending, you will love Ratter. It will have you guessing try to figure out what will happen next.

- Unfriended (2015)
When you watch this movie, you will feel like you are watching a laptop screen, opening Skype and doing a video call with your friends, but being a silent watcher because the entire movie takes place from the point-of-view of a laptop screen. Group of friends were having a group video call but then someone they do not know popped up and kept bothering their calls, not only bothering but threatening them for the death of Laura, their own friend who committed suicide a year before. Unlike previous movies, this one is a supernatural horror thriller movie which means the one who messed up with them is not just a creep but it is involving some supernatural stuff there.

- Unfriend: Friend Request (2016)
The story is about a popular girl went from something to nothing, from the top to the lowest state that lead to suicide. Laura that we talk about here was just trying to be nice to a social outcast, Marina, who had zero friend on Facebook, so unlikely Laura who had 800 friends. However, Marina became obsessed with Laura and when Laura shut her down–especially unfriended her, Marina killed herself tragically carrying her drawing of herself and Laura which supposed to be Laura’s birthday gift. The worst is that someone uploaded the scene of Marina’s death on Facebook and tagged along Laura. This raised the hate for Laura until she could not stand it no more and killed herself. The whole friend and unfriend thing, and other stuff, on Facebook really have power over someone and society. Not only in this movie but committing suicide caused by things going on Facebook really happened several times. Watch the movie here on YouTube.

- Unfriended: Dark Web (2018)
Unfriended in 2015 was a success, so Universal Picture decided to make a new movie with the same concept but different story. It started with, again, a group of teenagers having a group video call. One of them saying that he had found out a laptop with some interesting files in it that turned out to be a dark web. If the previous movie involves supernatural stuff, this movie is literally the world of dark web or deep web. Someone is watching and controlling other people: hacking their gadgets and controlling their minds, and if these people do not do the thing that he asks to do, they will die somehow. If you do not know anything about dark web, you may want to see this movie, but let me tell you all, do not try even once in your life to get into this web.

- Searching (2018)
Another cool movie with gadgets point of view: laptop, computer, and hand phone. A dad was trying to do anything he could to find his daughter, Margot, by trying to get into her gadgets and her social media accounts. He called all of her friends and tried to collect all the scattered pieces of puzzle. Do you think he could find him? And do you think she is still alive? Remember the mystery movie motto? “You could never trust anyone”
- Searching (2018)
- e-Demon (2018)
Another movie which the story started with a group video call. One evening, when they were having a group video call, they unknowingly released a demon that had been trapped long time ago. This demon could possess any people at once and at the end they were the one who trapped in that demon video calling game trying to survive. Demonic stuff is really getting popular recently. Like all horror movie is not only about a woman with long hair wearing white long gown but it is about a demon that possesses people and in this case, the demon possesses people via video call, like via internet, and makes them do anything to injured people around them. Well, I know it sound crazy and that it is a new thing that you never see in any movie, but the experience of watching a group of people streaming online with their only webcams and handy cams and with their demonic things going around is a whole new thing you need to see. Oh! You could also watch the movie here in this link. Be a viewer before the take the video down and you might have some troubles looking for the link to watch the movie.
